Reefer Express Launches Last-Mile Cold Chain Protocol to Close India's Biggest Pharma Delivery Gap
Reefer Express has launched a dedicated Last-Mile Cold Chain Protocol across its national network to improve temperature control and compliance during the final stage of pharmaceutical deliveries

Hyderabad, Telangana, India, July 31, 2026 pressrelease.in - Reefer Express, a healthcare and pharma logistics company built around India's cold chain requirements, today announced the rollout of its dedicated last-mile cold chain protocol across its national network. The protocol extends validated temperature monitoring and automatic documentation through the final handoff to hospitals, pharmacies, and clinics, addressing what the company identifies as the most common point of failure in pharmaceutical distribution across India.
Cold chain logistics in India has expanded quickly over the past several years, with the market projected to grow from roughly USD 24.85 billion in 2026 to more than USD 33 billion by 2031, according to Mordor Intelligence. Much of that growth has focused on warehouse infrastructure and reefer fleet capacity. Reefer Express says the industry has largely overlooked the final leg of delivery, where temperature-sensitive shipments frequently move outside monitored, controlled conditions.
"The warehouse is controlled. The vehicle is compliant. Then the product changes hands at a delivery point and the temperature record goes dark exactly when it matters most,at Reefer Express. "We built this protocol because closing that gap is the difference between a compliant shipment and a batch that has to be quarantined."
Under the new protocol, every shipment carries defined time limits between vehicle and recipient, active monitoring through that window, and automatic generation of temperature logs, chain of custody records, and excursion reports when applicable. The documentation is built into each shipment by default rather than produced on request, aligning with Good Distribution Practice guidelines published by India's Central Drugs Standard Control Organization for both pharmaceutical and biological products.
The rollout comes as India's pharmaceutical exports continue to climb, having crossed USD 2.57 billion, according to Ken Research, with the domestic pharmaceutical cold chain segment projected to grow at roughly 13.5 percent annually through 2034, according to IMARC Group. Reefer Express says the increased volume and value moving through the supply chain raises the cost of any single last-mile failure, making end-to-end accountability a requirement rather than a differentiator.
"Hospitals and distributors don't need another vendor promising cold chain capability"They need a partner who can show validation data for their specific routes and a documented answer for what happens at every handoff, including the one nobody else wants to talk about."
The last-mile protocol is now active across Reefer Express's existing service routes and will extend to new regions as the company's network grows. Healthcare organizations, pharma distributors, and diagnostics chains can request a route-specific assessment directly through the company.
